I have spent the last three months compiling data over three separate surveys. At 95% confidence, and within a 3.7% +/- margin of error, 91.41% of Bernie Sanders supporters will not be voting for Hillary Clinton if she is the Democratic nominee.

Now that I have your attention, let’s talk about why that is. Bernie Sanders supporters consist of a diversity of people, from all walks of life. Each demographic has their own motives, but essentially what it boils down to is that we disagree on a fundamental level about money in politics.

The older generation, and GenX crowd witnessed the erosion of the Democratic Party into center-right policy and lukewarm opposition to right-wing extremism that has allowed our government to become beholden to corporations and big money.

image

The younger generation, the millenials who are professed to be the so-called “majority” of Bernie Sanders’ supporter base have inherited the debts and mistakes of lawmakers who have only represented such a small portion of the American population that there’s nothing left for them to identify with or relate to.

Roughly 23% of the whole, these millenials have no false sense of entitlement – the “good old days” of social and economic equality are completely unknown to them. Is it any wonder why their ideals are pushed off and seen as “lofty,” “pie in the sky,” and dismissed as near impossible?

Establishment politics and government have stamped a bar code on the foreheads of the middle class and the poor. The DNC has treated us more like a consumer base than the supporters of a candidate… And don’t get me started on the mainstream media. Sanders has been branded a socialist, far left, “fringe candidate.” Meanwhile, the narrative is “Trump is scary, please vote for Hillary regardless.” Only we’re not buying it.

If we owe the millenials anything within this entire campaign, it’s most certainly their proclivity to obtaining credible information from the areas they’ve been most accustomed. (The internet, YouTube, social media, etc.)

As a result, like a tidal wave, the vast majority of Sanders’ supporters quit buying into the propaganda machine, that in previous elections was the mechanism you all have used to garner support for your preferred candidates.

image

All of this is useful information, but I have yet to even get to the most earth shattering statistics. The data trends have also shown that after the New York primary, the margin of those who were undecided about voting for Hillary completely vanished.

The Democratic Party is falling apart right before your eyes. This is a train rolling steadily forward, and the party, itself, is tied to the tracks. On one side of you is a candidate wrought with corruption and innumerable scandals, and with questionable morality – flailing at the multitude of stones being thrown at her – and she can’t save you because she’s too busy saving herself.

On your other side is this outsider who empathizes with your situation.(Hint: It’s all of our situations but we have a different perspective.) He’s standing on the platform, millions of people behind him. To spite what you may believe about his loyalties, the enormous crowd behind him need only say the word and he would ensure you’d be freed from those oppressive chains.

The truth is, 61% identify as Democrat if they can vote for Bernie Sanders in November. Only just under 7% say they’ll stay with the Democratic Party if Hillary Clinton is the Democratic nominee.

image

image

This is serious. And before you dismiss these Democrats as those who’ve switched parties to vote in the primaries for Bernie, let me go ahead and dispel any would-be theory.

image

image

The above questions came from two separate surveys and as you can see, it’s still within the margin of error. You can also see that there are twice as many pre-Bernie Democrats as there are independents. That’s 25% additional voters in November. 25% additional that Hillary Clinton could not garner, herself. That should factor into your overall decision.

It goes without saying that in national polls, Bernie beats every Republican candidate by a landslide. Meanwhile Hillary has, in at least one poll presented on Huffpost – LOST to (of all candidates) Kasich. Her slight dominance over the other two potential candidates isn’t strong, and in fact, grows weaker each poll. Unfortunately, her favorability rating seems to drop daily and she’s yet to even face off with the Republicans, who will not be kind to her.

image

One in ten, or 12.9% Bernie supporters would actually vote for Trump because they are so disgusted with the system consistently giving us the perceived choice of the lesser of two evils. And you could argue that Hillary is, in fact, the lesser of two evils.

But those who would vote against Hillary believe her stances on foreign policy, the countless times she’s voted in the “wrong” direction, and her overall dishonesty speak volumes more to her character than do Trump’s insults, or Cruz’s delusions. Personally, I can’t blame them, though I, myself, wouldn’t vote for Trump, or any Republican.

image

I had originally thought of creating these surveys to prove that the mainstream media’s representation of Bernie Sanders supporters was, and continues to be grossly inaccurate. After reading an open letter to Bernie Sanders by a superdelegate in California – I realized that there must be many superdelegates who’ve bought the media’s pitch and therefore are not truly aware of the potential disaster that awaits the Democratic Party in November if Hillary is the nominee.

These surveys were designed to cross check each other. Respondents are from a variety of social media venues and many are not the same between surveys. Roughly one-third of all respondents took all three surveys. Either way, this isn’t rocket science. The numbers don’t lie. This train is coming and the choice you all will have to make is critical to the future of our country.

I do apologize for imposing this crisis of conscience upon you. But THE PEOPLE have been waiting for you, and we’re ready to do whatever it takes because for us – it’s our livelihoods at stake, it’s the future of this great nation. Bernie supporters are not just going to wake up one day having forgotten the atrocities committed by the DNC’s choice candidate. More to the point, the trust we presently have in the DNC weighs entirely upon July’s convention.

image

Our trust in the “system” has already been shaken.

image

No one knows who’s at fault here, but we do know who’s benefiting directly from the overwhelming amount of discrepancies, primarily in closed primary states. To ignore the clear evidence at the exit polls is nearly complicit. Where most democratic countries would not stand for a deviation in the exit polls beyond 4%, here in America, it doesn’t even get press coverage.

image

Almost two thirds of Bernie Sanders’ supporter base calls themselves a Democrat, so whatever the issue is – the DNC has yet to take a stand against voter suppression in a way that appeases both Democratic candidates’ supporters.

To us, this is why the question of Bernie’s loyalty is ludicrous. Where has the establishment or the Democratic Party shown loyalty to its constituents? Why should we commit to a party that has left many of us disenfranchised and without a voice? Bernie’s comment “We’ll see,” in reference to whether or not he would support the DNC no doubt refers to his commitment to the people and the “If” exists only to ensure that the DNC does its due diligence to the people.

We all know that Bernie is first and foremost loyal to the people. That is incredibly commendable and perhaps a large reason why the majority of us are so fervent in his favor, as well.

In the face of being disenfranchised by those who’ve claimed to have our best interests at heart, we’ve found no error in calling ourselves “Bernie or Bust.” All for a man with more integrity, and who’s been more honest, and courageous than any candidate many of us have ever had the pleasure of witnessing in our lifetime. He’s the embodiment of what we’ve thought and felt for years about government and the way things are done – but had always thought “it’s just the way things are.”

On critical issues like the pollution and destruction of our environment by way of fracking, and the pollution and destruction of our democracy by way of greed infiltrating our government and political system, as well as critical social issues beyond what Hillary had only evolved on as it became politically expedient, for countless smears against Bernie AND his supporters – for these reasons and many more, we cannot – in good conscience – EVER vote for Hillary Clinton. Unifying the party is not an option if the option is Hillary.

image

image

We don’t want our children and grandchildren subjected to the same vicious money grubbing system, with a price tag on their dreams and aspirations. It’s come to our attention that this is not “just the way it is,” and that we have the power to make things better for the generations to come in the hopes that maybe they won’t inherit the same burden.

Please stand with us, we ask this in kind. The DNC stands between Bernie and a presidency representative of the people. And we the people stand between the DNC and a victory for the Democrats.

image

A right and fair election would demonstrate how incredibly large our numbers are. We don’t have that luxury. But I’m confident that justice will prevail and the people will have the candidate that they feel most represents their best interests. I’m hopeful that history will reflect this pinnacle moment as one where love, honesty, integrity, and freedom won.

That’s all up to you.

    1. For all who say they are writing in Bernie, know this,. Bernie must file to be a write in candidate for your vote to count in the majority of states. We need Bernie to file if he wants our vote to count. You may as well stay home if he does not file or you could vote Green. Jill Stein’s platform is very close to Bernie’s. Just want to make sure you understand about write ins.

      1. We might be able to convince Bernie to file the paperwork, or we might convince him to go Green; but let’s not get ahead of ourselves – he can still get the Democratic nomination. We simply say “we will write him in” to prove that Bernie is our candidate, and it will never be Hillary, or even Trump.

    2. I hope someone going to the convention as a delegate brings up the following and demands a vote: It seems to 1000’s of Americans that many elected public servants who America once trusted, are participating in obstruction of justice. “Whoever, having the custody of any such record, proceeding, map, book, document, paper, or other thing, willfully and unlawfully conceals, removes, mutilates, obliterates, falsifies, or destroys the same, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both; and shall forfeit his office and be disqualified from holding any office under the United States.” Since when are they above the law?

Now I realize it was likely propaganda:( Thank you for doing a poll so reflective! I’m 54 lifetime democratic & #stillsanders The DNC & HIllary and corporate media have pushed me away from the Democratic Party. It’s a Party I don’t even recognize anymore! The party has lost its way! I believe Bernie could even get the Party reorganized as its leader to be The Party it The People again!

  3. I want this to be true, but wondering where you got your information. You say from three surveys, but can you tell us which ones and if you know their considered accuracy as pollsters?

    1. These are the surveys. They’re still open until 1000 respondents.

Surveymonkey has been used by companies to collect data on consumers and it’s considered highly effective. Ultimately, the questions, their answers, and the demographic obviously is chosen by me. The demographic is simple. Bernie Sanders supporters only. So if the respondent indicates they are a Hillary, Trump, or Cruz supporter – that data is omitted from the numbers you see here. That’s why the surveys are more astute as the data is pristine.

Politico pollsters, for example, poll several hundred people with the demographic of “registered voter.” Then they break down into those who support Bernie Sanders which of 1663 people polled – 600 or so we’re pro-Bernie. They take that number and break down the data into who would vote for Hillary and who wouldn’t. They based their margin of error, however, on the entire number of people polled regardless, which is an unfair calculation. Their number, after adjustment, was 1 in 4 or 25%. This data is still referred to as correct even though the poll was done back in February.

I am not a reputable pollster, and I’m not afraid to admit that. But I stand by the data as being correct because the math adds up – and after running it three different times with only slight variances to the questions and their wording, it’s a little difficult (sarcasm) to get the same number within the margin of error three times in a row.

Here’s the surveys though, you can check them out for yourself.

      1. Thank you for the information, that helps. I wonder if you’ve compared the demographic information to that in the wider surveys to see if you’re getting a sample that is representative of those, which are said to be representative? I am quite interested and could possibly help (8 years in research, with a large portion in survey research, but not this kind of polling). I’m not sure if you can access my email address but if so feel free to email me.

    1. 400-900 Bernie Sanders supporters. Those who answer “no” to “Are you a Bernie Sanders supporter?” respondent information isn’t counted. That’s what makes these surveys different. It’s strictly for those who support Bernie.

The surveys were spammed over Bernie facebook groups and twitter, as well as email.

  4. I am 62 year old woman and have voted as a Democrat since McGovern. I will not be voting for Hillary Clinton and I am sure I wasn’t surveyed. Add me to the percentage. My respect is for Bernie Sanders.

  5. I love Bernie for his honesty and his loyalty. I have contributed many times to his campaign, and I’ve worn his t-shirt proudly. But should these facts and commentary come directly from him if he’s out of the race, then I would have to disagree with the statement that he has our best interests at heart. Hillary is corrupt in more ways than one, but I think she will keep us safe on the international stage. If he wants to ACTIVELY discourage fence-riders from voting for her, then I believe he is feeding us to the wolves.

    1. Another person said that to me before. I didn’t catch that one until the data was at 200+ respondents. An open primary answer wouldn’t have served to make the point of the question so in the end, it just comes down to answering closest to what’s accurate for you.

  6. I would loved to been polled. I am a independent that switch to democrat for Bernie. In fact my whole family switched to vote for Bernie. If he doesn’t get the nomination we will switch back. And yes we will NOT vote for Hillary or Trump. We will write in Bernie Sanders!

  8. If Trump and Hillary are the nominees, it will be very difficult for the American people to elect a president they will actually want to elect, much less one who will be a positive force for the country. I would NEVER vote for Trump, no matter what. I’m not sure I would vote for Jill Stein if she and Bernie do not unite (although I like her very much), but I would vote for the two of them together, because then I think they have a much better chance of winning. Otherwise I would consider – for the first time in fifty+ years, not voting. I think I would decide instead to vote Green.

  9. Thank you for this. What I recommend doing is copying and pasting the URL to the article, then either tweeting it to your Democratic US Senators and US Representatives, as well as your state superdelegates. Let them see the REAL numbers, and maybe, just maybe, they’ll change their minds about continuing to back Hillary. I have already sent to @Sen_JoeManchin (D-WV), @SenFeinstein (not sure which state she’s from), @SenatorBoxer (CA, I think?) and @PattyMurray (not sure which state she represents). At the end of my tweet, I simply stated: READ. Hoping this will wake them all up!

  10. Numbers can be skewed to support any answer they want. But I do know that I left the Dem party after Obama’s first term in which I voted for him! I believe that all parties should be nullified and whoever gets most votes is 1st (president), 2nd (vp), 3rd sec of state and go on down the lines for the main positions. Lobbyists should be done away with, nobody gets paid unless they can balance the budget and show they are trying to save money instead of putting us deeper in debt. Our government is privy to insider trading which is not allowed for the rest of us and they leave office as millionaires. Term limits for all offices taking away lifetime politicians. Our government is totally screwed up and needs to be revamped according to the peoples will.

  11. While I would love to believe your results they do not jibe at all well with my impressions of the indecisive and fickle nature of progressives over the past dozen years when it comes to presidential elections (though in the mid-terms clearly large swaths of the Democratic party have just stayed home, as well they should have given the party establishment’s abysmal performance in supporting their interests). The most obvious reason might be because the responses to your surveys appear to have been self-selected (and perhaps from sites frequented by a far more politically active population than average) rather than obtained from randomly-selected individuals who agreed to be surveyed before knowing exactly what the thrust of the survey was – and indeed your results do mesh well with the attitudes of the most active Bernie supporters on the political sites I frequent (though even there I have some doubt that all those who have joined the Bernie or Bust brigade will follow through on that pledge in November, especially those who haven’t already been shunning establishment Democrats in general elections before being inspired by Bernie this election season).

My own best guess would be that at best a large minority of those who have voted for Bernie in the primaries and caucuses (including the substantial number of independents in that minority) would refuse to vote for Hillary in November should she win the nomination. That’s still several million people and hardly to be sneezed at, but far short of the 10+ million people (given that a lot of states have yet to provide their contribution) that your numbers would suggest.

I sincerely appreciate the effort you have put into this and would be delighted to have the assumptions I made above either proven wrong or proven irrelevant (I’m no polling expert either, so they well might be). But you really ought to try to research and address them.

(Apologies if this comment appears twice: I had scripting disabled the first time I tried to post it and so far it has not appeared.)

  12. Thanks for this great poll! If Bernie Sanders doesn’t get the nomination and if he doesn’t file for Independent write-in status on the ballot then, Bernie Sanders supporters, please don’t stay home! And, please don’t vote Republican. Vote Green Party for President (Dr. Jill Stein). Staying home is simply throwing your vote away and also precludes one from voting for progressive down-ticket candidates. Voting Green is helping to build a growing party of the future that has a program very similar to Bernie’s. It is a people’s party that works to get Wall Street money out of politics, transform our energy sources into renewables and make peace in the world by employing negotiation and diplomacy instead of drones and missiles. The Green Party is already on over 35 state ballots and qualifies for Federal Matching Funds. So, I say: Vote Green in 2016 if Bernie is not on the scene!

  14. Could you please provide more information about the methodology behind these surveys? How many people took these surveys? In what demographics? What is your source pool? How did you reach a 3.7% +/- margin of error? I’d love to share this around, but you don’t provide enough information here for me to feel confident in the survey’s accuracy. For example, the 91% that won’t support Clinton is WAY off from what’s been reported in the media as 1/4 or 1/3 of supporters. You could be right, and that would be great, but I’d need to understand more of your methodology to feel confident in your accuracy.

    1. The surveys were spammed across twitter, facebook, and some email with control questions to rule out those who were not Bernie Sanders supporters. (sample control question: Do you support Bernie Sanders?)

The number of people who took the surveys is directly beneath each graph. Three separate surveys, #1 being the most accurate with over 820 respondents (now at over 875, and the percentage of “would not vote for Hillary” is actually larger). Survey #1 has a margin of error of 3.4% +/- but I chose to report the 3.7% garnered from surveys #2 and #3 which had fewer respondents.

Margin of error is calculated by taking the population of those surveyed (in this case I took the US population, cut it to 43% representing registered voters, then took 56% of that number which was extremely generous. It came out to 74,531,021. Then you input the number of respondents, (822, 411, 415). You can do it easily right here – http://americanresearchgroup.com/moe.html

The surveys had as much reach as any online poll used in articles to date on the subject. For example, Politico ran the poll that came up with the 25% number. Their poll allowed for other candidates supporters to take the poll as well and could not discern the data as they polled 1700 people, of those 1700, 620 were Bernie supporters. Obviously, “other” supporters answering “no” to being “Bernie or bust” will drive that percentage down. They also calculated their margin of error on the 1700 – not the 620 Bernie supporters, which just isn’t the way to do it.

I set out to create fool-proof surveys and appeal to an array of supporters, albeit all online – so if you’re looking for land-line surveys, this isn’t it. In order to attempt to capture the millenials for the question having to do with age – survey #2 was largely twitter, and some facebook. I purposefully posted in neutral areas as well as in Bernie supporter groups.

I have worked tirelessly at times on these surveys, there are still people taking them and there will be until 1000 respondents each.

If there’s anything else you need to know, don’t hesitate to ask.

I would love to see you do this study again, without initially stating your opinion and without biased answers to your survey questions. BTW, I am a Bernie or Bust.
